It is fast-paced and filled with violence. The 87th Precinct is the place the heroes--ordinary cops--work. Three people are shot with the same .38 and it is exciting. Troublesome is the gore and the gratuitous bad language (the author doesn't figure his readers would know what urinate means, I presume). The denouement is neat but not very realistic: hard to see that the murderer really could have so behaved. But it is a fast and easy and enjoyable read. The jacket says Ed McBain is Evan Hunter, author of Blackboard Jungle! ( )Another totally absorbing thriller from McBain. I'm additcted to the 87th Precinct novels, and you will be too if you read this. no reviews | add a review
