Loading... The Sailor Dogby Margaret Wise Brown, Garth Williams (Illustrator)
None. I don't own this book any more, but it was my favorite Little Golden Book when I was very young. My second favorite was Ms. Brown's Mr. Dog, also illustrated by the incomparable Garth Williams. The original 1952 version of The Sailor Dog sells for USD$30 on Amazon, so it's a little pricey for me to justify buying. I had a huge yellow toy box filled with Little Golden Books that I gave to my niece. I wish I'd rescued that book before I gave her the lot. The only scene I remember (illustrations by Garth Williams capture Ms. Brown's sweet and gentle stories) is where Scupper is marooned on a beach and turns his boat into a makeshift house. At five years old, I was enchanted with this idea. ( )First or Second grade reading level. This is a fun book a teacher could read to students to encourage students not to give up on things they want to do or setting goals. Just like the dog didn't give up on his dream of sailing. This book could also be used in encouraging creativity and individuality. Silly book with cute pictures. no reviews | add a review
