The thrilling conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Tearling trilogy.

In less than a year, Kelsea Glynn has transformed from a gawky teenager into a powerful monarch. As she has come into her own as the Queen of the Tearling, the headstrong, visionary leader has also transformed her realm. In her quest to end corruption and restore justice, she has made many enemiesâ??including the evil Red Queen, her fiercest rival, who has set her armies against the Tear.

To protect her people from a devastating invasion, Kelsea did the unthinkableâ??she gave herself and her magical sapphires to her enemyâ??and named the Mace, the trusted head of her personal guards, regent in her place. Imagine a book that starts out as almost High Fantasy and then seamlessly evolves into Science Fiction. If that doesn't get you, imagine if Game of Thrones featured actual feminism - that's the Queen of the Tearling series.

Amazing. Erika Johansen has such an amazing grasp not only on plot, but on characters as well. Villains have their backstories but remain villains; Kelsea is not a Mary Sue after all and suffers the weight of humanity like all the rest.

I finished this series in a matter of two weeks and I enjoyed every moment of love, horror, and escapism fantasy. Definitely books I'm going to revisit in the future. ( )

Don't get the dislike for the ending that I've seen in various reviews, it was telegraphed pretty early on.
I enjoyed this series.

Quite the complex finish to this series. The time travel back and forth might seem intimidating to some readers, but it ultimately completes the framework to what happens at the end. Lots of action, darkness and violence, but all three are integral to the story. I couldn't help feeling empathy for Kelsea at the end because of how much she sacrificed. ( )

This series started off okay enough, but just got weaker and weaker. I probably should've skipped reading this book, but I'm apparently a glutton for punishment. ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
For Shane, who never asks me to be anyone else.
First words
Long before the Red Queen of Mortmesne came to power, the Glace-Vert was already a lost cause.
Quotations
[Acknowledgements] My final word is for the readers.
The Tearling is not an easy world, I know. Contrarian that I am, I am determined to make this kingdom echo life, where answers to our questions are not delivered neatly in a beautiful expositional package, but must be earned, through experience and frustration, sometimes even tears (and believe me, not all of those tears are Kelsea's). Sometimes answers never come at all. To all of the readers who stuck with this story, understanding and sometimes even enjoying the fact that the Tearling is a gradually unfolding world, full of lost and often confounding history thank you for your faith in the concept. I hope you feel that you patience was rewarded in the end.

Now let's all go and make the better world.
