I had read this before, but it was still interesting.

In the prologue we meet Jude Weinlander, not a nice person. He & his friends were drinking & playing cards. He told them of his plan to send a letter to Mrs. Detschman's sister & ask her to marry him, but sign his brother, Dag's, name. They wanted to embarrass Dag.

Clara Johanson lived in Norway & was looking for a way to America. She considered being an immigrant bride. She thought she'd make a good wife. She prayed that God would include America in His plans for her.

Dag Weinlander was shoeing horses. Jude wanted to make sure he'd pick up the lady at the train station & take her to the Detschman farm. Will, Dag's apprentice, was helping him. Why did Jude want him to pick up the woman? He had lots of other things to do & he didn't think his brother would pay him like he had said he would! Dag wouldn't talk to Clara on the way to the farm. This land was as her sister, Nora, had described...flat! Dag finally gave her his name, his ears were burning. Animal noises greeted them at the farm. Clara would finally be with Nora again! Dag refused the refreshment Carl, Nora's husband, offered. After Clara's chatter, the night was very quiet on his way back to town! ( )
