In this Mrs Armitage picture book, the main character gets a new car which she doesn’t take very good care of. Eventually, with all the damage, the car resembles a motorcycle and Mrs Armitage joins a group of motorcyclists. This would make an excellent read aloud since every time she hits something, great sound effects have been incorporated into the text. Blake adds his unique illustrations enhancing the humour and making Mrs Armitage’s antics seem harmless rather than destructive. ( )

This is one of my favourites at the moment. Mrs Armitage is given an old car by her Uncle Cosmo, but when she takes it out for a drive, bits keep falling off, until by the time she runs into Uncle Cosmo and his biker friends, she is driving a bare chassis with seats, which they all think is really cool. It's a delightfully wacky book, and Mummy and Daddy have not yet gone mad from reading it over and over again. ( )
