I love it when the reader knows something ages before the protagonist and Kristan Higgins is a master at that. ( )I've heard so many great things about Kristan Higgins that I thought I would try out her books. I started with this, her debut novel. It was actually really difficult for me to get into at first. Millie was a bit annoying and immature. Her obsession with Joe was a little over the top. After I got about halfway through the book, I started to like it better. It moved a bit faster and Millie wasn't quite so crazy. It was a good book, but not great. It lacked in a few places, but I can't seem to put my finger on what would have made it better...maybe just the overall development of the characters? I'm still going to give her next books a go...I have heard that they are much better. This book starts with a nice bouncy energy, but it wears thin. I realized it was a bit too true to life, which made it a bit too boring for me. By the time the heroine figures out she should stop stalking her high school love, I wasn't engaged anymore. And there was something about her falling in love with her brother-in-law (scarcely a spoiler, it was telegraphed pretty strongly) of 17 years, that just threw me off. I guess I'm too close to my sisters, but the thought of sleeping with their long term spouses - this isn't sleeping with someone your sister sleptwith/married in college and now it's 20 years later, this is someone who was at your Christmas table for years and years... it just didn't ring and romantic bells for me. So I read about 100 pages, skimmed the rest, don't need to reread and would not necessarily look for this author again. I did like the descriptions of Cape Cod, though. Not too bad - started a little slow, but picked up and finished well. I even shed a few tears. no reviews | add a review

But perfection isn't as easy as it looks--especially when Sam Nickerson, a local policeman, is so distracting. Sure, he needs a friend after being dumped by Millie's fortune-hunting sister, but does she really need to enjoy his company that much? He is definitely not part of her master plan. But maybe it's time for Millie to start a new list…
