Loading... A Silly Snowy Dayby Michael Coleman
None. This cute book is about a little turtle and how he handles the snow. Turtles are not meant for snowy weather so he does not exactly know what to do! The story tells about his silly day in the snow! My students really enjoyed reading it and thought it was funny to see a turtle in the snow. This is a fantasy picture book appropriate for the primary grades. This book is done in ink and wash. This book is about a tortoise named Shelley. She wonders why she can't go outside in the winter like all of the animals. Even though her parents warn her that tortoises are not supposed to do anything but hibernate in the winter, Shelley's curiosity gets the best of her. Outside, Shelley meets all sorts of animals that explain to her that she is "ridiculous" for being outside in the winter. She realizes that she does not have the means/tools to survive outside in the winter. When she returns home and her parents ask her if she had been outside, she simply responds, "ridiculous!" This book is set outside in the winter, which is reinforced and accurately portrayed by the illustrations. The illustrator does a good job to set the scene with windy conditions, snow, cold, etc. This book would be good for exploring the different special things about different animals- what sets them apart from other types of animals (could be coupled with science lessons). This book could be used to discuss/explore being yourself and not trying to be someone you aren't. 1681 Summary: It is time to go to sleep for the the winter, but Shelley wants to see what winter is like. She travels around to different animals and they all think she is ridiculous for being outside during winter. The only thing that helped her while she was outside on this snowy day was her shell so she could slide down the hill and break through the ice. Media: Pen and Watercolors This is a fun book about a tortoise named Shelley who decides she wants to go out in the winter weather and not sleep like all the other tortoises. Although the other turtles, and other animals tell her it is ridiculous for him to be out in the winter, she goes out anyway. She soon realizes she is freezing and wants to go back hom to his warm ,cozy bed. She decides to get home, and gets there much quicker than a tortoise can normally travel, she slides down an icy hill. This book has such playful artwork that really helps to set the tone in this fun story. no reviews | add a review
