StephenBarkley: The themes are similar. Powley's work is more popular and modern. Foster's work goes deeper. (Not a criticism—I enjoyed both books.)

How to lead your life as a Christian in a simple, grateful, humble and conscious way.

Richard Foster has in a very humble way written his thoughts about how to lead your life as a christian in a simple, grateful, humble and conscious way. It´s about solidarity with those not so rich, it´s about taking care of our world and it´s about freeing ourselves from the demands of this world, about how to be content with what we have, about trusting in God and about finding peace through a simpler way of life without isolating yourself from the world. I liked it. It´s of course a bit provocative sometimes but it makes you think. ( )

Book description
Richard J. Foster's Freedom of Simplicity courageously articulates a creative, more human style of living and points the way for Christians to make their lives "models of simplicity." Foster shows us that the Christian Discipline of simplicity is an inward reality that liberates our outward lifestyle by freeing us from dishonest speech, obsessive status-seeking, compulsive extravagance, and a loss of perspective on the true nature of our involvement with the world in which we live.
