Reaction: Genuine photographs from 1944 and realistic illustrations of artifacts from the war such as a military badge, helmet and army identification add interest and reading engagement. The layout of each page is visually appealing, with one to two paragraphs describing the events that led up to D-Day and then photos or diagrams filling other white space. This is a fascinating book, one I would use to supplement an elementary or Middle school History class or to suggest for a leisure read. ( )
