Nearly forgot this one - have been reading it in bits with my eldest for practically the whole year, and we finally finished. Lovely steampunk ... ... (clothing as well as gadgets) and think it's lots of fun, but I haven't done a lot of reading in the genre. I did like Larklight, though I haven't read the sequels yet. I also think the Chrestomanci books, particularly Charmed Life, have a steampunk feel to them. ... Moore)

A couple of steampunk series' that haven't been brought up here:
- Larklight by Philip Reeve - A junior steampunk series that captures a wonderfully whimsical Victorian sentiment. Rolllicking good fun!
- Mortal Engines also by Philip Reeve - Young Adult series based ... #225 True, it is mainly adventure and excitement at the beginning. I haven't read Larklight but have heard good things about it. So with any luck he will be hungry for more and move onto Mortal Engines again.
Personally I don't think Fever Crumb is worth buying in hardback, no. It's just not ... ... is all swashbuckling adventure and bloodthirsty revenge, which I thought would be right up his street. We've been reading Larklight together though, which he's been enjoying, so I'm hoping I can persuade him to give Philip Reeve another chance.
I may wait for Fever Crumb in pb if it's not ... I haven't read Stardust,
But I have read Larklight. What did you think of Larklight? I have seen it and thought it looked interesting. 15. Larklight by Philip Reeve - - 400 pages I just picked up Larklight and its sequel Starcross by Philip Reeve...I've heard good things so I'm excited to start them! I'm glad I found this thread! I've already added Daisy Kutter to my TBR list. I really enjoyed Larklight when I read it and the sequel.
The Mysterious Island is on my 'loser-books' list. I won't tell you why, but after you get started, you'll see what I mean, even if you don't agree. I ... 47 - You've read Larklight and Mortal Engines, right? And you must see The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello (youtube link). Philip Reeve writes some good steampunk, including Mortal Engines for adults and the Larklight trilogy for kids. ... Reeve is one of my absolute favourite writers of all time, but I wouldn't classify his work as sci-fi, unless you mean the Larklight series, which I haven't read yet.
If we're reccomending anything at all I have to include The Golden Globe by John Varley. An awesome, light-hearted romp ... ... you'd enjoy.

By that definition, I would guess that Larklight would count as steampunk. I really enjoyed it and read the second one, although I can't remember the name. Fun children's series. ... other material, if you're into comic books.
And there are plenty of books with characters' journal excerpts in them... Larklight and The Magic Thief are kids' books and the only ones coming to mind, but there are a lot. Also books like Dracula, which is all letters etc... ... (7/9 complete)

I'm rereading Terrier by Tamora Pierce, as my teen book club selected it for next month's read. I read So Much To Tell You yesterday, and Winter today. Also reading Larklight today. Winter by John Marsden, and Larklight by Philip Reeve (author touchstones wokky). I'm on a John Marsden binge, I just recently rediscovered him. Grammath - I recommend Larklight by Philip Reeve - maybe a bit 'young' for you, but it's well worth the effort. ... working on finishing up all the books that I started but put down to start something else (I'm horrible at doing that!).
