Wright's colossal Historical Jesus tome (Jesus and the Victory of God); on the other hand, I suppose some of this year's books have been at least somewhat bulky as well. I guess I'm roughly even. But I was ... ... he will give the kind of meat you will really enjoy chewing.) Not his popular stuff, but I was thinking specifically of Jesus and the Victory of God. The title alone should tell you a lot about where he comes from. ... favorite on the other side of the Jesus Seminar folks is NT Wright, but there are others. Ben Witherington comes to mind. Jesus and the Victory of God would be an excellent text to read along side of Ehrman.
There are many other scholars who don't buy into the Seminar theology lock, stock ... ... bunch, but I have great respect for Ehrman, Borg, and Vermes.
Wright has a wonderful overview of the Third Quest in his Jesus and the Victory of God. His work is worth pursuing if you want to see reputable alternatives to Borg and Vermes. He is not reactionary though, and does not attack the ... ... in nature. His New Testament the People of God shows this from a historical standpoint. Less so you see the connection in Jesus and the Victory of God.

N.T. Wright, current Bishop of Durham, is currently writing a series of books on the New Testament, (Christian Origins and the Question of God) all of which are worth the price of admission. This series is a bit more technical, and lengthy (the volume on the resurrection ... ... Jesus and the Restoration of Israel, edited by Carey Newman. It's a critical assessment of N. T. Wright's Jesus and the Victory of God, one of my favorite books.
Interesting read. Brings my total up to 14. At long last, I've finished N. T. Wright's massive Jesus and the Victory of God, a fantastic treatment of the subject of the historical Jesus. This tome has won the honors of joining the highly exclusive ranks of my favorite books. It may not have been the lightest read--and let's face it, ... ... Wright does a decent job of the quest for the historical Jesus in the second volume of his series on the New Testament, Jesus and the Victory of God. If you want a more liberal view, Marcus Borg has some excellent books. He and Wright are friendly sparring partners. ... with an historian's methods.
No simply easy answers and lot of pages - with lots of information.
