Work detailsDexter in the Dark by Jeff Lindsay (2007)
None. Total Dexter fail. I'm going to try this again soon for two reasons: 1) the ebook version is the worst format I have ever seen 2) I'm currently in love with the Showtime version of Dexter...and not the Jeff Lindsay version. I really enjoyed this, but not as much as the first two. I thought there was too much of an element of supernatural in this with the whole thing about Moloch. I was rather hoping that maybe someone was discreetly slipping Dexter a hallucinogenic to inspire the weird dreams and hear the music. But I did enjoy the return of Doakes, who still manages quite a degree of menace. Dexter in the Dark is the first of Jeff Lindsay’s “Dexter” series not narrated exclusively in the first-person point of view. Along with Dexter’s first-person narration, the novel also includes third person narrations from two other points of view. One is a person called the Watcher, a member of the cult that follows and observes Dexter. I found Dexter in the Dark a return to form for Lindsay, the feel and the primary case just seems more suited to a Dexter style book, which is nice considering Dearly Devoted Dexter lacked it a bit.
Daft though the plot and the premise may be, by taking a comic, irreverent and politically incorrect turn, Jeff Lindsay not only animates a wickedly entertaining anti-hero but also breathes new life into a tired sub-genre of crime. Definitely Diverting Dexter. The stuffy, academic thriller plot nearly suffocates Jeff Lindsay's usual wit. ...what a relief it is to find the amiable serial killer unspoiled by his success as the hero of the Showtime TV series he inspired.
Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0307276732, Paperback)In his work as a Miami crime scene investigator, Dexter Morgan is accustomed to seeing evil deeds. . . particularly because, on occasion, he commits them himself. But Dexter's happy existence is turned upside down when he is called to an unusually disturbing crime scene at the university campus. Dexter's Dark Passenger – mastermind of his homicidal prowess – immediately senses something chillingly recognizable and goes into hiding. Dexter is alone for the first time in his life, and he realizes he's being hunted by a truly sinister adversary. Meanwhile he's planning a wedding and trying to learn how to be a stepfather to his fiancé's two kids – who might just have dark tendencies themselves. Macabre, ironic, and wonderfully entertaining, Dexter in the Dark goes deeper into the psyche of one of the freshest protagonists in recent fiction.(retrieved from Amazon Thu, 14 Feb 2013 13:47:47 -0500) Miami cop Dexter Morgan and serial killer (the Dark Passenger), one-in-the-same, investigate a double murder on the University of Miami campus while the burned and beheaded body count continues to mount.
