Great story! We loved the twang of their western speech and the classic cowboy whodunit plot. The twist of bugs appealed to both my boys very much. ( )

I wish the author's note explaining the whole deal about aphids being "ant cows" was at the beginning of the book because I was really confused the first time I read this. It was better once I figured out what the heck was going on.... ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0803730233, Hardcover)

The ants of Ant Hill are mighty upset. Some cows from the local herd are missing, and rumor says the culprits are a wild bunch of ladybugs. Deputy Harvey is eager to investigate, but Sheriff Dil is more concerned with finishing his breakfast. Very suspicious! Kids will root for this loveably goofy hero when Harvey hatches a plan to uncover the real thief.

From the wonderfully wacky imagination of Brad Sneed, this spoofy mystery-adventure is told with a western twang, and illustrated in a colorful style that has many clever details (and clues!) to amuse children and their parents.

(retrieved from Amazon Thu, 12 Mar 2015 18:22:18 -0400)

The sheriff of Ant Hill seems none too worried when the townsfolk inform him that someone--perhaps a gang of ladybugs--has been rustling their ant cows, but Deputy Harvey is determined to put a stop to the thievery.
