A big coffee table book. The advantage is having Tannenbaum's photos all in one place, so many of them I've seen before without registering the photographer, the commentary adding just the right amount of text to allow the visuals weave their magic. What meant the most to me was seeing the pictures of the ghetto apartment buildings like those of the fire guttered building on the LES after the 1974 fire. It's a great document of a person's work and it is the personal diary feel of the book that gives it its warmth. The raconteur of the 70's is captured in every frame. ( )
