The Ladders of Death is the name of a place, an area of escape actually, but the phrase could have a dual meaning here....

A young Canadian woman named Jenny and a French doctor leave their respective homes to do their part in fighting the incredible atrocities of Nazi Germany. It may read as a wee bit unrealistic at first but in time it dawned on me that people like this DID exist, those who put others lives ahead of their own. Other characters are involved of course...each with a distinctive personality and goal. But it is these two around which the story revolves.

As in life today there is an on-going presence of villains, heroes, and the bulk of those of us in the middle- many / most who prefer to stick their head in the sand. Thank god every so often there is someone who has what it takes to stand up and say NO. Their names are rarely in history books but they did and DO take a stand for what is right. Makes you wonder on which side of the line YOU would fall.... ( )
