Constance Kopp is back, this time as a deputy sheriff: one of the first women deputy sheriffs in the country. But hanging on to her position is a challenge in an environment where the sheriff who hired her faces threats to his re-election, and later a jail sentence when a prisoner in his custody escapes. To make matters worse, Constance was on hand when the prisoner escaped. She considers it her job to track down the fugitive and make matters right.

As with the first book in this series, I enjoyed this very much. Constance has a matter-of-fact narrative voice with lashings of humour, and the story rockets right along. The author’s note at the end explains where each element of the story came from and how she blended fact and fiction. This series is well worth reading. ( )

This was an interesting story. When I started it, I didn't realize it was based on historical facts. The idea of a woman police person in the early 2oth century was a novel idea. The story revolves around Constance Kopp and her quest of a job as a policewoman. Sheriff Heath takes a chance on Constance and makes her a deputy sheriff. This case takes her from New Jersey to New York and in between. Constance is tenacious and hard headed. She won't be deterred in her search for a con man who escaped during her watch. The story continues to unfold and she meets like-minded independent women who encourage her on. It is also nice to have a story where the woman is not a piece of arm candy but who actually has a brain and is not afraid to use it. I really enjoyed it and now I have to find the first book in the series "Girl waits with gun" (less)

This second book in the series was good fun, although I preferred the first book. I love Constance for her tenacity and grit. But there were a few times I had more empathy for her boss, Sheriff Heath. Amy Stewart blends fact, fiction, and social commentary once again. It’s well worth a read or listen!

Loved this book! I adore the main characters. This sequel was just as good as the first book and I can't wait to read the 3rd installment when it comes out later this year. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0544409949, Hardcover)

The best-selling author of Girl Waits with Gun returns with another adventure featuring the fascinating, feisty, and unforgettable Kopp sisters.

After besting (and arresting) a ruthless silk factory owner and his gang of thugs in Girl Waits with Gun, Constance Kopp became one of the nation’s first deputy sheriffs. She's proven that she can’t be deterred, evaded, or outrun. But when the wiles of a German-speaking con man threaten her position and her hopes for this new life, and endanger the honorable Sheriff Heath, Constance may not be able to make things right.

Lady Cop Makes Trouble sets Constance loose on the streets of New York City and New Jersey--tracking down victims, trailing leads, and making friends with girl reporters and lawyers at a hotel for women. Cheering her on, and goading her, are her sisters Norma and Fleurette--that is, when they aren't training pigeons for the war effort or fanning dreams of a life on the stage.

Based on a true story, Girl Waits with Gun introduced Constance Kopp and her charming and steadfast sisters to an army of enthusiastic readers. Those readers will be thrilled by this second installment--also ripped from the headlines--in the romping, wildly readable life of a woman forging her own path, tackling crime and nefarious criminals along the way.
