I found myself immersed in the story. The characters and descriptions of events are very rich. There are many small stories of vets and vet techs in action. Through it all the main character finds his way toward what he really wants in life.

The other book I saw by this author appears to be horror and does not appeal to me. I hope to see more of the sort of fiction contained in Old Hickory Lane. This is truly great writing!

On second reading:

First read in June 2014 and listened to the audio version in August 2015. The narration is quite good fitting with the story itself. His voice is pleasant and country enough to work. The book was in some ways better on the second reading, because I got more details. This book is so rich I don't think I will ever tire of it.
