Ann Mckenzie is a young girl living in Colonial Williamsburg with big dreams of becoming a doctor. The only problem is that during that time girls were only allowed to learn house hold chores, things that would make them a good wife. However, Ann makes a trade with her friends brother, she would do his math homework for him if he taught her Latin.
Eventually, Smallpox becomes a problem through the town and Ann has to take care of her family and her friend, Peache's family. It's then Ann's father, a doctor himself, realizes that Ann will make a good doctor.

This is a very great story. It depicts the time time and place very well. It's a great story for young girls to read because it shows that even though Ann was suppose to learn all house hold chores when she didn't want to, she found a way around it and was able to become what she wanted.
