I was unable to read more than three chapters of this book. The characters are as flat as a pancake. The two male charcters I was introduced to in those first few pages were more women than men. Reminded me of a romance novel. ( )

I thought this book and the author, Gail Martin, had a lot of potential. The idea of the story, the concepts that surrounded the characters and the world the author was attempting to build were all interesting and even at times vivid throughout this book.

That being said, I felt that the author demonstrated a lack of polish throughout the book. Characters were 2 dimensional in turns throughout each chapter and their emotions seemed flat. It was hard to develop a connection to them.

The storyline was rushed. The author hinted at significant plot-points and then never developed them, abandoning them with no logic for other "more interesting" aspects of the story.

The book had a sense of rush to it, hurrying through all the best scenes so that you reached the back cover feeling very unfulfilled.

I'd give the story 2 and a half stars because the author and the story definitely have potential, but I don't feel it was accomplished as well as it could have been. ( )

Very hard pressed to stay interested until the end. Characters don't have any depth and the story line is much too predictable. ( )

This book was sent to me as a birthday gift, and so I put it off for a few weeks to finish a stack of books I had already planned to read. When I finally picked it up, I started to wish I hadn't waited, and then I called up the friend who gave it to me and thanked her for being such an awesome friend to pay attention to what I like to read. I now own both The Blood King and Dark Haven. I love the depth of characters that Gail gives all of her principles, not just Tris. I have to admit that I like Vahanian better than Prince Drayke and Carina better than her cousin Kiara. I also found myself wishing that Cam had gotten more face time. Oh well, maybe further in?
