In the first of two school stories set in France, a homework assignment involving autographs has everyone Claudette's class asking the question "Who is a hero?" In the second story, a teacher questions the importance of technology when her persistent boyfriend becomes a nuisance as he uses the class's new telephone/fax machine to express his love. Funny, fresh and full of talking points, another morgenstern winner.

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0670060224, Hardcover)

Susie Morgenstern delivers two appealingly offbeat stories, reminiscent in their lighthearted charm of her Batchelder honor book, A Book of Coupons. In "The Autograph," when Claudette’s teacher asks the class to bring in a treasured object, Claudette proudly displays an autograph from the famous cellist Rostropovich. Surely, everyone will be awestruck. But they don’t seem to care. In "Our Teacher’s Boyfriend," Mademoiselle Raysun’s classroom has gotten a telephone/fax machine. No longer are they all alone in the countryside! Except Mlle. Raysun’s boyfriend won’t stop calling and faxing his messages of LOVE. How will they ever get anything done? With witty black/white illustrations by Serge Bloch, these endearing, funny stories are sure to delight.
