One of the precious few books that offers real strategies (as opposed to just the rules and a few pointers) for the game of hearts. The book is designed for people who want to take their game to the next level. While the book admits that there is no substitute for experience, it tries to accelerate that wisdom gaining through various strategies. The examples, being hard to follow at times and are certainly designed with stacked hands, may be frustrating for the amateur to mid-level player. With a little patience, you should be able to improve your game a bit to play with a higher quality players. Much of the book focuses on preventing a player from "shooting the moon" and there are differing strategies that are effective that the author does not focus on. Ironically, there is no chapter or much information on strategies to help a player "shoot the moon". The non strategy part of the book (history of hearts, diary of a hearts player) is pure filler and can be skipped over. In the absence of much literature on hearts strategies, this book is ok but not ideal to fill that gap. ( )
