This is the only edition currently available of Ossian's poems. The influence of this work on literature, art and society of the time cannot be overstated. Napolean carried a copy with him wherever he went. Elias Linroot later used the, same apparent gathering techniques as Macpherson and was probably greatly influenced by him like so many others. Both used somewhat creative editing in putting their Magnum opus together so successfully. ( )

OK, it's not the greatest work in world literature, but it is great, and it did kick off the romantic revolution, inspiring Blake, Goethe, and who cares who else (everyone in that European period). a beautifully poetic retelling of highland scottish epic lore in the guise of translating ancient manuscripts that did not exist.
