This anthology is a selection from the hardcover edition (which had 23):
Nightfall (1941) by Isaac Asimov
First Contact (1945) by Murray Leinster
Eternity Lost (1949) by Clifford D. Simak
Vault of the Beast (1940) by A. E. van Vogt
Invariant (1944) by John R. Pierce [as by John Pierce]
When the Bough Bends (1944) novelette by Henry Kuttner and C. L. Moore (variant of When the Bough Breaks) [as by Lewis Padgett]
Cold War (1949) by Kris Neville
Over the Top (1949) by Lester del Rey
I admit it. I bought it for Nightfall. Everything else is just a gift. Nightfall may be one of Asimov's best (along with Ugly Little Boy). What an astonishing concept that was! It may seem obvious now, but to think of what it would be like for a world with a night that show more only comes every 1000 years, and what would happen when darkness fell...
It's a good collection, with only a couple that haven't aged well. show less

This was actually published before I was born! Truly the golden age of SF. Includes stories such as: Blowups Happen by Robert Heinlein, Nightfall by Isaac Asimov, First Contact by Murray Leinster and The Exalted by L. Sprague de Camp.
