A baby girl is taken from her crib in the middle of the night. Her parents are next door at a dinner party, completely unaware. What happens next is a whirlwind of secrets and lies.

Will they get baby Cora back or live to regret their terrible mistakes?

This was a fast paced mystery/thriller. I give it 3.5 stars just because the story seemed to run out of steam by the end and it didn't have that wow factor I'm used to. This was Shari's debut novel, so I'm hoping that her newest one is a bit better in terms of twists, turns, shock, and awe. ( )

A great plot with a lot of potential. It pans out well but somewhere along the way, the build up fizzles out, leaving the plot flat towards the end.

A couple’s baby goes missing when they are at a dinner party next door. Psychological thriller with a cast of less than perfect characters, each of whom may have their motives, gradually revealed as the stress & tension mount. Impressive entertaining debut novel that had me guessing as the suspects multiplied. ( )

Overall this book easily held my interest with all the twists and turns it takes but there were frustrating times I found myself wanting to skip ahead with some of the repetitiveness of actions and thoughts of the main characters and decisions that they made throughout the story. ( )

THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR is like an Agatha Christie novel. That is, it has lots and lots of twists as one character after another is suspect, first this guy, then that guy, then that guy, then back to one of those guys, then on to another guy, etc. And more and more of the mystery is solved until the surprising reveal. Except THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR doesn't end the story there. A bit of what-comes-next follows and a not-so-surprising but, I think, funny end.

It's not a bad book. But it's not so good that I'll be reading more of Shari Lapena. That's because, like the Agatha Christie novels I've read, THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR is long on mystery but short on story. If you are an Agatha Christie fan, you may rate this higher than I do. ( )

...the set-up is fantastic – it’s just when Lapena has to deliver on the answers that the novel starts to slip.

How well do you know the couple next door? Or your husband? Or even—yourself?

People are capable of almost anything. . .

A domestic suspense debut about a young couple and their apparently friendly neighbors—a twisty, rollercoaster ride of lies, betrayal, and the secrets between husbands and wives. . .

“Meticulously crafted and razor-sharp.  THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR lingers long after you turn the final page.”—Harlan Coben, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Fool Me Once

Anne and Marco Conti seem to have it all—a loving relationship, a wonderful home, and their beautiful baby, Cora. But one night when they are at a dinner party next door, a terrible crime is committed. Suspicion immediately focuses on the parents. But the truth is a much more complicated story.

Inside the curtained house, an unsettling account of what actually happened unfolds. Detective Rasbach knows that the panicked couple is hiding something. Both Anne and Marco  soon discover that the other is keeping secrets, secrets they've kept for years.

What follows is the nerve-racking unraveling of a family—a chilling tale of  deception, duplicity, and unfaithfulness that will keep you breathless until the final shocking twist.
