I read this book in the early years of my marriage. It seems it was the first one published that dealt with the subject of how to keep house...in our modern times anyway. I read the whole book in one night while I was babysitting for a friend who lived downstairs. The next day I completely cleaned my apartment and rearranged the furniture. It must have been a pretty good book, although by now it will certainly appear outdated and insufficient. But it got things off the ground and pioneered the forthcoming of many more like it. If only in that way it has been very helpful. Hoole also stressed principles behind good housekeeping, which are often less obvious in other books on the subject. It really wouldn't hurt if we all saw caring for our home and families as a calling worthy of esteem and value. Three cheers for Daryl Hoole. ( )
