In half of this volume we go back even further into the past, and see the start of the Band of the Hawks. We get to see more about Griffith and what he is willing to do to get the band started and we get to see Casca's past and why she feels the way she does about Griffith. The second half of the book is battle. I found myself staring at one page of a battle scene trying to decide how long it took Miura to draw that one page. It must have been hours. It makes me really appreciate how much time must go into this series to make it what it is. (And it's a long time, only one volume a year usually!) But I'm very grateful that Miura takes the time. The story wouldn't be the same if I couldn't clearly watch the different expressions on Gut's face. The only thing about the artwork that drives me a little nuts is that most of the women always have pursed lips. But it's such a small thing that it never takes away from the story. I could gush about this story for hours I think. Have the next volume on hand when you finish this one. If you can brave it, you won’t regret reading these. ( )
