I'm listened to the audio book edition, read by Carlin himself. Since so much of his humor relies on the delivery, I think this was the best way to appreciate it. I am going to try to read his book, [b:When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?|826943|When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? (Thorndike Core)|George Carlin|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1178729594s/826943.jpg|833245] & I'll see how that goes. The book is really just a bunch of his regular comedic material. His lists of things that piss him off, him tearing apart various sayings or making fun of people. It was good to listen to at the end of a frustrating day. He had me laughing out loud as I flew down the highway toward home. Not sure what the other drivers thought about that. Probably thought I was crazy - maybe that's why the drive seemed to fly by. Well, if they can't take a joke... ( )

As much as I love Carlin's wit, reading it is just not the same as watching his facial expressions and hearing the way he puts rhythm to his shows. Good material if you haven't heard or seen Carlin before, just a bad format for veteran fans. ( )

George Carlin rocks...especially short takes, oxymorons, & euphemisms. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com (ISBN 0786883219, Paperback)

George Carlin's been working the crowd since "the counterculture" became "the over-the-counter culture" around 1967 or so; his new book, Brain Droppings, surfs on three decades of touring-in-support. It's the purest version of book-as-candy that one could imagine, serving up humor in convenient, bite-sized packages. Snack on chewy one-liners like "A meltdown sounds like fun. Like some kind of cheese sandwich." Or: "If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten." Brain Droppings also contains highlights from Carlin's concert repertoire, and that more than makes up for the occasional spray of pointless nihilism. Tell us, George, what exactly were you going for with "Kill your pet" and "Satan is cool"? Quick--hide the paper before Daddy sees it! Still, if you're a fan of this sarcastic semanticist who's given Bad Attitude not necessarily a good name, but at least a comfy bank account, by all means rush out and snag Brain Droppings. Carlin's book melts in your mind, not in your hand.
