This book was long. I wanted it to be even longer. The authors try to show how the dynamic duo of Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart worked from nothing and absolute poverty to the riches of pop stardom. I learned something new about Stewart but mostly it was good to hear about one of my biggest musical interests, better understanding the genesis of Lennox's craft. Lennox went to music school on a flute scholarship but did not graduate. She has since gone on to become known worldwide as a vocalist and lyricist. Eurythmics' songs Love is a Stranger, Would I Lie To You?, Heaven, Beethoven (I'd Love to Listen), Sisters are Doing It For Themselves, I've Got a Lover (Back In Japan), Take Your Pain Away are shown as saddened feelings embodied by Stewart's instrumental melodies. I don't know if this is an accurate portrayal of their creative process in total (many are described at different places in the book) but it was great to read an almost encyclopedic version of their time together as musicians. Intended for the fan, this book is probably too detailed for the general reader. I love Lennox's music and this was a great read for me. Lennox professes no faith, is from Aberdeen, Scotland, suffered from bouts of depression/agoraphobia, and spent some extended time in L.A. during her career as a recording artist. ( )
