Pox is a germ in training. Pox is a germ who is very different from all the other germs. He doesn't approve of getting kids sick. So when he is assigned to get a little girl sick it was a hard decision for him. When Pox was inside the little girl he didn't do anything, but then he was found by Myrtles Immune System. The immune system is there to destroy germs so they won't infect the little girl. But Pox was different instead he helped the immune system from other germs that were coming to get her sick. They made the little girl sneeze so the germs would get in the dog, the dogs immune system was already there to protect the dog from those germs. Pox was praised for protecting Myrtle. They also made him the " chief of the immune system". Myrtle became the " mighty myrtle the girl who is never sick". I really loved this book because I think this book is telling you that you can be who you want to be and don't have to listen to other people trying to make you someone you aren't . This book became one of my favorite books. ( )

This is a clever spin on a rather boring science topic. It teaches children about germs, through a germs perspective. The children can see the germs target areas, as well as, how germs are fought in the body. I thought this was a really cute way to teach this topic in way children would understand.

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0747571422, Paperback)

When one young germ finds itself in the germ academy, he finds out that infecting is not really for him! Try as he might, he just can't work up the enthusiasm for sickness that his classmates - Snot, Rash, Pus and Scab - so obviously feel for the task. And when the sweet little germ is sent to ruin Myrtle's birthday, things don't work out as planned for Myrtle, the germ or indeed his horrible classmates. A fantastic and utterly bizarre picture book by the incomparable Ross Collins.

Pox, a young germ on his first assignment, not only refuses to infect a girl with chicken pox, he also helps defend her from other germs and, for his heroism, is made Honorary Chief of the Immune System.
