This book, in an attempt to remain as objective as possible, interviews various teens and preteens that are exposed to guns, and the effects that guns have upon their lives. Ranging from sharpshooters to people who have been exposed to gun violence, Gunstories attempts to show the various ways in which guns play a role in contemporary teen's lives. I truly enjoyed reading this work, especially the interview about the young lady sharpshooter. She provides quite a few valid points in regards to guns and gun control, mostly around the notion that "guns don't kill people. People kill people." I enjoy reading a work that attempts to remain objective, and allows the reader to draw his/her own conclusions, and I believe that Beth Atkin did just that. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0060526599, Hardcover)

Guns are a fact of life for young people growing up in the United States. They are present in homes -- for protection, sport, and hunting. Guns are also on the street -- for defense and security, and in gang-related uses. Guns can cause accidents, injuries, and deaths, while they can also nurture self-esteem, bolster confidence, and foster athletic abilities.

The impact of guns is life changing and undoubtedly twofold.

In a series of evocative and stirring interviews and photographs, S. Beth Atkin presents an array of young people who candidly share the mixed consequences of guns in their lives. Told in their own voices, these are their remarkable stories.
