About to read The Reformed Vampire Support Group by Catherine Jinks. I really hated her book Evil Genius, but I can't resist the title, so I'll give it a shot. ... suburbia was amazing, a collection of wonderfully imaginitive short stories illustrated with beautiful drawings which only shaun tan could draw, very enjoyable! ... in the afterword.
Another one I love I picked up in a book store and literally forgot where I was as I went through it. The Arrival doesn't have a single word but tells an amazing story.
Caliber has amazing art work but may be too violent for middle schools. It's a clever Western version ... Hi brightblackbird, did you enjoy Tales From Outer Suburbia? Tan's book is without words-just illustrations and very effective. Just "finished" Codex Seraphinianus, and The Arrival. I'm currently reading: The City of Dreaming Books and Promises to Keep ... Each one representative of the immigrant experience in its own way.
Although not a novel, the (wordless) picture book The Arrival by Sean Tan, tells a beautiful story of life in a new land. Highly recommended!
