It is good that this issue is being addressed, and the workbook will be helpful for pastors and Christian counselors. Not everyone will agree with all of his diagnoses or remedies.

Any book that can help a single guy to remain sexually pure until marriage is a plus. This book certainly falls squarely into that category. Arterburn gives motivation as well as practical principles that any guy can apply daily. In a nation awash in pornography and casual sexual encounters, Arterburn serves as a guide to a new direction. Written from a Christian perspective, this book can encourage and equip single men to live a life that honors God and the purposes of God's creation of sex. I recommend it without reservation.

This book presents a helpful and practical guide for men in their struggle with lust. Often books of this nature reach one of two extremes. Some fail by reducing the struggle to a series of "do's and don'ts." Perform the right action or say the magic words, and the problem goes away. Some focus so extensively on proving how wrong lust is that they fail to offer a practical solution forward. This workbook is an attempt to find a middle way.

Every Single Man's Battle is designed as a companion guide to Every Man's Battle, and is primarily geared toward group study. The book delves deep into the underlying causes of sexual integrity issues, and the authors are extremely vulnerable with respect to telling their own stories and struggles. I am not single, nor have I read Every Man's Battle, but even I found some encouraging reminders, tips and tricks.

Overall, this book could be extremely valuable in a group setting--I think it could serve as a great "jumping off point" for discussion. It's not written all that well (intellectually, it could have been ratcheted up a few notches and still been quite readable by all), but the content was good, as is 99% of everything I hear from the folks at New Life. Without the earlier book that "every Single Man's Battle" jumps from, this book is a little on the weaker side. The reality is the "Every Man's Battle" book is the basis and this book seeks to throw the spin of singleness into the mix. The coverage is still good and the purpose of this book is admirable. Men in today's society desperately need to face up to the threat to life that porn and a messed up view of sex that we all receive from media. This book does a good job of providing information, creating a way to interact with the information to increase the impact of the information. This is a book that full value will not be experienced unless it is done in an accountability group of some sort, as it appears the book was intended for. All in all, a good book, well worth the price if you are a) a single male and b) struggle with sexual purity. ( )
