The title isn't something that would have grabbed my interest on its own, but your description certainly sounds promising. I'll add it to the list (and ... ... I just read about the series on another website and it sounds fascinating.
Another YA faerie novel is Kate Thompson's The New Policeman which combines music and magic into a stunning story set in the Irish countryside.

The Snow Queen by Mercedes Lackey and Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow - variations on the same ... I just read a really interesting YA book called The New Policeman. It's about a young Irish teen who decides to get his mother some more time for her birthday, and there never seems to be enough. He finds his way to the fairy land. Really different. ... while not as blow-you-away amazing as the Aslam, this was a very accomplished book. Strong echoes for me of Kate Thompon's The New Policeman, and of Siobhan Dowd's A Swift Pure Cry and, I feel, a whole host of others that are on the tip of my tongue but I can't quite put a name to...

what color comes after pink? ... I last posted, I have read 24 Girls in 7 days and a prepublication copy of The Last of the High Kings (sequel to The New Policeman, which I really liked). I just finished The New Policeman -- recommended to anyone who loves both fantasy and the Irish.
Next, I'm looking at a short story collection called One Beastly Beast by Garth Nix, but this thread is making me want to reread A Little Princess or Little Lord Fauntleroy. ... so far it's pretty good. One thing that I think is cool about it is that it has a different Irish tune at the end of each chapter. One of my friends, who plays fiddle, says that she would like to get it just so that she can play the songs. : ... Screw this one favourite book thing. This is my top five list. That has about twenty titles. (In no particular order)
