I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a SF title they've never read before. This book is a good mix of space travel, post-apocalypse, and military sci-fi.

Kay Kenyon's debut novel, an interesting contrast to her current writing. It has quite a few pieces that always make me happy in a SF story: space travel, cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic world destroyed by exhausting the world's resources. You gotta love the doomsday we-shoulda-been-more-environmentally-conscious-now-the-world's-gonna-end stories. (I'm an environmentalist so I really enjoy them.)

Very solid writing. It took me 4 pages to really get into the story but once I did, I was hooked. Clio is a fun character. She sometimes walks the line of being a little too cookie-cutter predictable for her character type (think Starbuck as played by Katee Sackhoff) but hey, even Starbuck is fun when we know exactly what she's going to do!

Once on Niang, the mix of characters reminds me of the characters in Aliens. Clio is Ripley and the other people sort of fill their soliders-fighting-an-unknown-enemy roles: Teeg is the unbalanced, full of himself commander, Hillis and Zee are the slightly clueless scientists, etc. ( )

Great furturistic story. Earth is dying. Clio is a dive pilot sent back in time to bring back plant species to revitalize the planet. But, she may bring back more than she bargained for. Excellent character development, plot driven, with clean writing. Kay Kenyon is not to be missed. ( )
