The story about five board monkeys whose mother gives them jobs to do. After they clean they mess everything up. The story is watercolor and in a style the children will enjoy. ( )

It starts with five monkeys getting ready for bed. Then those naughty little monkeys start jumping on the beds. One by one they all start falling off the bed. Their mama has to call the doctor every time one of them falls off. So finally Mama and the Doctor said “No more monkeys jumping on the bed” and they all fell asleep.

I think this is a cute and creative way to show how you can write a basic poem by rhyming. At the younger age poetry can be confusing. This helps break it down in a simpler way.

1. This could be a good introduction to rhyming. They could come up with words that rhyme with a given word.
2. This could also be used to show how naughty behavior can lead to painful outcomes.

This book was great and entertaining. I really liked how in the illustrations how the monkeys were everywhere; I could stare at the pictures for a few minutes! I wouldn't tie this book into any lesson, but I would use this book to read for fun to the children maybe before we do a classroom spring cleaning or before tidying up for a special visitor. ( )

Five Little Monkeys with Nothing to Do by Elieen Christelow is about five little monkeys who are bored out of their mind and say that there is nothing to do. Well there are chores to do, for their grandmother is coming for a visit. This is great book that I love to read over and over again. It’s a great little twist to Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. I decided to categorize this book under Supporting the Writing Workshop the author uses great leads throughout the story. ( )

A librarian recommended this one for my group-mind essay. The five monkeys act as one throughout. It’s a cute story and I can see how a child would have a lot of fun with the art, since it’s there that the monkeys’ personalities and some of the humor comes across. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0618040323, Paperback)

It's summer, school is out, and the five little monkeys are bored. "There is nothing to do!" they tell Mama. "Oh yes, there is," says Mama. "Grandma Bessie is coming for lunch, and the house must be neat and clean." Well-meaning as ever, the five little monkeys clean their room and go on to sweep the floors, scrub the bathroom, and pick berries for dessert. But then . . . Children will welcome the return of the five little monkeys, who make the same kinds of messes they do.
