I really don't know about this book. On the one hand I could appreciate the struggles the individuals went through as they grew past their estate circumstances. On the same hand went the insights into their thoughts behind their actions. On the other hand, either the writing style that was extremely disjointed or the characters' journeys (or both) stopped mattering to me a long while back. I sympathized with Leah's story, getting caught like that with a con artist, but after a while her creating of her own problems and inability to fix them became infuriating. Maybe that was Zadie Smith's entire point: watching others not fix their problems is infuriating, so why don't you fix your own? And she did a lot to bring people from London's NW estate side to life. I suppose it does me good to know about them, but again, what was the point? ( )
