Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0692676694, Paperback)

For seventeen years, in one capacity or another, I was privileged to teach students preparing for ministry at Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama. During those years, it was not uncommon for students to ask for copies of my dissertation research or a sermon I had preached. As a result of their requests, and following my retirement in 2009, I thought at some point I might pull together a collection such as this. Denise George, a gifted writer and teacher of aspiring writers, has encouraged me to publish these items numerous times. Her enthusiasm stimulated me to give positive thought to the idea of publishing my writings, but I have persistently allowed other pursuits to derail my efforts until now. In the spring of 2015, I was asked to teach a four-week class on “Writing as a Spiritual Practice” for my church, Vestavia Hills Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. The class drew more interest and participants than I anticipated, and to sustain that interest, our pastor, Gary Furr, initiated a monthly writers group for all who wanted to continue their writing activities. I have been a regular participant in that group, and the other members have provided me generous affirmations of my work.
