I ended up with two copies of this book: one from a library book exchange area and another from a friend who got it from another friend. When I read the first few sentences, I almost thought I'd read it previously, but I quickly realized that the animal blocking the road in that one was a male while this bison was a pregnant female, so it is a different book.

Gunner has returned to Blue Thorn Ranch at the request of his grandmother and revived it, but now a company called DelTex wants to purchase a piece of ranch property that contains a creek. Gunner worries even a small thing such as that will spell eventual loss of the ranch.

Brooke works for DelTex. She and Gunner meet by chance, but her employer leads Gunner to doubt her frequently. Brooke ends up with a dilemma: do what her boss wants so she can keep her job or follow her heart and help Gunner and his family keep their land. ( )

The Cowboy's Second Chance

Black-sheep cowboy Gunner Buckton is home for one reason—to keep Blue Thorn Ranch in his family where it's been for generations. No one—not even Brooke Calder—will take it from him. The cute, down-home widow may not look like a slick developer, but she works for one. Along with her adorable daughter, she's a threat to his homestead—and to his wounded heart. Brooke needs this job. Gunner may be as ornery as a bull, but it's her task to win him over. The battle lines are drawn. Only problem is, around the handsome Texan, she doesn't know which side she's on.
