The book is short, but it is useful as a meditation to explore one's past lives. That is, the whole book could be considered a self-guided past life regression meditation. The first chapters prepare the reader to accept the possibility of past lives and chapter five provides an explicit meditation with suggestions to help one interpret what the regression experience brings to mind.

Those who want details about past life research and case studies should go elsewhere. For me, not being all that interested in the research, it was as much as I needed to know about reincarnation to make me open to the idea.

One of things that occurred to me while reading this was that if reincarnation is real then there are other influences on our lives besides the genetics we inherit from our parents and our environment. We would also be influenced by the past lives we have lived. That insight alone made me feel the book was worth reading. ( )

Reincarnation and Past Lives by Taryn Price is an interesting short work that presents, in brief form, the basic ideas behind the idea of reincarnation as well as some examples and a guided meditation and ways to determine if you might have had a past life.

I tend to be open to most things and reincarnation of some form has always seemed like a strong possibility to me. This book does not try to give details of either research into past lives or the fact that the belief has long been a part of many religious and spiritual belief systems. If you're looking for that sort of thing to help you decide then this isn't the book you're looking for. The examples cited give some idea of the history of the idea without going into great detail.

I'm not sure this book is useful for someone who leans against believing that reincarnation is possible, that person likely needs more "proof" in order to begin to even entertain the idea. If, however, you're undecided but think there is a possibility and are open to the idea I think you will enjoy this work and might find some suggestions for determining your own likelihood of having had past lives.
