This is an excellent chess book. The original, shorter, edition was better as a read though. Much of the book was over my head when I first read it, but my chess got better just by being exposed to his ideas. The new edition is more solid in the chess, due to some updated analysis and additions. The shorter first edition though was a more fun, more exciting read in my opinion probably in large part due to it having less material to wrestle with. Reading any good chess book is a lot of work. To write an exciting book where you're rooting for the author to win, as I found myself doing in this book, isn't easy. To write a compelling chess book is not easy. Suba does both here.

This book might not be a good choice for someone without some basic knowledge of opening principles, basic middle game strategy, or basic end games. When I read this book, my knowledge was mostly based on studying games from the early 20th century. This book really ripped apart the very static way I looked at the game. ( )
