A Hearts On Fire Review

Are you a fan of fairy tale adaptations and MM Romance mixtures?

Because I am! I am! Me! Me! Me!

Kayla Bain-Vrba does not disappoint with this fairy tale/ fantasy short story. And what's even better, no silly princesses mucking up my happily ever after. "Crowns and Criminals" is sweet, funny, light and quirky. It reads like a cross between Shrek (sans ogre)/ Sleeping Beauty (sans the royal cursed to sleep- this royal is cursed to not sleep)/ Rapunzel (sans the long hair but include a cursed tower - can you say harpies anyone?).

Prince Danson is a virginal royal who has been trapped in a tower waiting for his true love/ knight to rescue him from a cursed tower. Only thing is it's been over a year and he really would like to get some sleep. His fated true love has yet to get past the harpies, poisonous thorns and magical fire that surrounds his tower. Many have tried and none have succeeded.

Enter Noble, a poor albeit cunning thief. He could care less about the prince and more about the promised prosperity that comes with rescuing the cursed prince. He solves the puzzling traps so simply, you can't help being sucked into this tale. The dialogue between Danson and Noble is funny from their first encounter and it continues throughout until the end.

There's bounty hunters and a villain thrown into their story. Do these two make it? Can they fall in love? Is there sex? (How did that slip in there?) It's actually closer to PG-13, folks so keep your toys for the next story, okay?

You can't help but root for these two. And the ending was equally satisfying as Danson and Noble's beginning.

Do I wish there was more to their story? Yes. I wanted an even longer road trip of Danson & Noble kicking butts and taking names. But the ending was cute enough.

This is a great read for an hour or so in-between-novels read." ( )
