The book “At Your Request” starts out with Wilhelmina Radcliff, who has been relegated to the wallflower section of the ball. There she makes friends with, Permila Griswold, Temperance Flowerdew, and Gertrude Cadwalader. Just the sound of those names make me smile and the girls have temperaments to match their names! Wilhelmina’s father lost their fortune in a bad business deal so she is no longer the belle of the ball. Along comes Edgar Wanamaker, her childhood friend, who had proposed marriage to her years before. When Wilhelmina turned him down he left town. Now he’s back and she’s reluctant to see him. This is a great beginning to the new Jen Turano series “Apart from the Crowd”. When you pick up a book by Jen you know you’re in for a treat. She weaves her stories with believable, funny characters. It’s a MUST read!! ( )
