Winter in New York City and NYPSD LT. Eve Dallas and her mega rich husband Roark were on their way home from a party. A blood covered young woman wanders right in front of their car. They rush her to the hospital. She is a victim of a brutal beating and multiple rapes. Evefinds the woman's residence and finds the young woman's husband beaten and lying in a pool of blood dead. Thus begins Eve's search for a devil disguised as a human, a perpetrator of extremely vile acts. Victims, blizzards, computer hacking and a dead surgeon, whom all respected yet hated became Eve's newest homicide case. It was a good fast one day read, with a somewhat unexpected yet satisfying finale. Now I will wait for the next in this series to be published. ( )

It is hard to believe that JD Robb has written 44 books in the Eve Duncan/Roarke series.

In any series that run this long, there are bound to be books that are just ok or just miss the mark. This sis one of those books.

While several reviewers will say that the problem with the books is that several characters are missing or have small parts. My complaint is that the books seem to focus a great deal on physical abuse of woman. While the characters are police officers investigating murders and it is highly likely that women will be a target but there seem to be a very high proportion of physical abuse in these stories. Given the fact that Eve was sexually abused as a child, this subject seems to take up a great deal of the plot for each book.

This installment was just ok and I would pass on it unless you are someone who needs to read every book in the series. I highly recommend the Audible versions read by Susan Erickson. She does a great job bringing all of the characters to life. ( )

Solid, enjoyable Eve Dallas novel. When the "devil" breaks in, brutally rapes Daphne Strazza and kills her husband, Anthony Strazza, Eve and her team get to work unraveling the lives of the devil's victims because of course there are others who fit the same pattern and who have been brutalized. Enjoyed this one very much even though I figured out "who done it" right from the start. ( )

Another great read from Roberts. A slight variation from normal is there is a greater accent on the UNSUB and the victims not so much police procedure more psychological. The ending was a twist and a surprise. ( )

As Lt. Eve Davis, a police detective in New York, and her husband were driving home, a young woman darts out in front of their car, all covered in blood. Eve discovers her husband, a well-known doctor, has been murdered and their house torn apart. This chilling novel is filled with twists and turns, and will keep you on your toes.
