A thoroughly interesting and informative read of the inter-war period (well, the US 'inter' - UK & Europe already 2 years into wartime grief & misery) - some of the most well known people and episodes of that era - that attained newsworthy record both sides of the Atlantic. ( )

This collection of essays about newsmakers and events of the interwar years is a delight. They are by various writers knowledgeable about each subject. Not a history of the era, but a focus on memorable people and phenomena, full of fascinating stories. ( )

I read this book between Oct 2 and Oct 12, 1952 and found it interesting reading. On Oct 8 i commented thusly on articles read in the book: "One of the articles was by Hodding Carter on Huey Long. He lost a three-way race for Governor in 1924. He beat Senator Joe Randall in the 1930 primary. His machine's governor in 1936 was one of the men who went to jail in the 1939 scandals--Dick Leche. Of all these things I was ignorant and all I'd like to know more. The other article was on Edward VIII's abdication, and it was so well written that i fain'd read a book on it. I never knew that Wally wasn't divorced till October 1936." Since reading the ariticle I have read two good books on the matter: . Abdication, by Brian Inglis (read 3 Jan 1982) and
The Windsor Story, by J. Bryan III and Charles J. V. Murphy (read 29 Aug 2011) ( )
