John Leguizamo is an interesting guy, and I enjoyed reading about him straight from his own mouth. I get the idea some of it is him playing up a bit, which is simply part of his nature, but even that is still showing who he is, so I don't mind it. I already knew a bunch of the tidbits of his childhood and such, from having seen two of his shows on HBO years ago, but it was nice to read it all in a more straight-forward linear format, than interspersed with his humor. Which isn't to say the book isn't funny, it made me laugh multiple times, he is a comedian after all; but, the book is more just laying everything out plain. Regardless, I feel like I got to know who he is as a person a bit more. Plus getting some interesting little bits about other celebs he's worked with and what they were like is always fun, too.

Recommended if you're a fan, or looking for insight on the Hollywood scene. ( )

John Leguizamo defies easy categorization. Fans of his smash-hit one-man shows, Mambo Mouth, Spic-O-Rama, Freak, and Sexaholic, have gotten a glimpse into his life, but this book tells the whole story, taking readers on a journey from his childhood in Queens to his current home at the top of the Hollywood pyramid--actor, director, producer, one of the highest-paid Latin actors in the world, with the clout to shape every aspect of his own career. The protean performer shares the stories behind his many roles--what inspired them and what transpired as he created them. Never shy, he dishes on his personal relationships with his family, friends, and colleagues. Keenly intelligent and insanely funny, this book offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at the magic and chaos of stardom, as well as an intimate portrait of Leguizamo's greatest achievement--to grow up Latino in America and to succeed on his terms.--From publisher description.… (more)
