Hedgie works at Star Lab but is not an astronaut. One day the Big Sparkler, which is on another planet, is not sending up sparkles. (The sparkles make flowers). They design a robot to go to the planet and fix it. However, the robot malfunctions, so Hedgie goes up to fix the problem. He comes back as a hero.

Hedgie has never been to space but he is the only who can fit in the craft to go to space. Hedgie is going to save Mikkop. When he gets to Mikkop he sees that it is full of coins. Hedgie makes a brave move and jumps out to clear the coins. Once the coins are clear flowers instantly start to grow. When Hedgie gets back he is awarded the first astronaut hedgehog and is considered a real hero. This was a fun book to read. I would read this to a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade class. I think it would be good to talk about during science. It would make space a little more interesting. ( )

This is about an animal named Hedgie who wants to be an astronaut. However, Hedgie is only a janitor so he can't go into space. One day the there is a problem in outer space, and Hedgie is the only one that can fit into the Rescue Robot. So, is dreams come true and he gets to go into space. This is a great book that talks about following your dreams and never giving up. This is a good story for young children.

This book is about Hedgie who works at a Star Lab as a cleanup man. He so badly wants to be an astronaut. Something in outspace goes wrong and the robot is broken and they need Hedgie to go into outerspace. He gets his chance to go be an astronaut. This would be a good story to read to 2nd-3rd grade before science to motivate them. ( )

Amazon.com Book Description (ISBN 0399246215, Hardcover)

More than anything Hedgie wants to be an astronaut and travel into space. He gets his chance the day the geyser, Big Sparkler, starts to sputter and fade, disappointing all the alien tourists, who fly to the tiny planet of Mikkop to throw coins into Big Sparkler and look at the strange flowers that survive on its sparkles.

Because only Hedgie can fit into a small space ship, he flies to Mikkop, where he not only finds out what is clogging up Big Sparkler, but fixes the problem in a most unusual way. He returns home a hero amid cheers from the aliens and the scientists back at the Star Lab.

With an amazing gatefold illustration of Hedgie bursting out of Big Sparkler this is not only one of Jan Brett’s most inventive books, but it’s one of the funniest. Fans will love the unusual setting as they laugh along with a wild cast of characters, including comic aliens, canine scientists and bird reporters.

So jump on a spaceship and take a ride to Big Sparkler. You’ll be glad you made the trip!
