(  ) brunhilde | Jan 11, 2008 |  I loved Heaney's translation of "Beowulf", so why is this such a disappointment? Because there's nothing to it for the person who (a) isn't Irish, or (b) isn't Heaney. It's all so personal to him, that there's no pleasure in reading it, even in his control of the language.
