3 and a half stars.

Good plot. It kept me entertained from the beginning to the end.

I didn’t expect such an ending…

Although I have enjoyed more reading the other Shalini Boland’s books, I recommend it.

The Girl from the Sea follows the recent tradition of having a mystery with the word "girl" in the title. It also follows a pretty similar formula to many of these types of books. I was drawn in with the initial story- girl falls into the water, wakes up with amnesia, and has to figure out who she is what what her life is like. The problem was the story broke down into a formula that has been written before- a boyfriend who gets angry quickly- Did he do it? A friend who is recently divorced, but seems to care for the protagonist- did he do it? A neighbor who seems caring and who's wife seems a bit angrier than normal- did one of them do it? Or did our protagonist simply fall into the ocean, even though she was an accomplished rower?
I felt the story with her mother and sister seemed a bit of filler. I wanted to like this, but I guessed pretty quickly who did it and was right.
I gave this one 3 stars.
I want to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to read this early in exchange for an honest review. ( )

Mia has washed ashore and she has absolutely no memories. She doesn’t know who she is or how she ended up on the beach. But, as her flashbacks start to fill in the gaps, she realizes there is no one she can trust. Not even herself.

This was almost a 5 star read for me. But, the main character, Mia, is just a bit too naive, especially at the beginning. Yes, I understand she lost her memories and that is one of the most appealing parts of the book. But, she is so trusting…not sure a true person in this situation would be so unquestioning about certain situations.

I flew through this book. I even listened at work (a rare occurrence!). But I truly had to find out where this story was going. Plus, the ending did surprise me…that’s rare too! This story is fast paced and definitely intriguing!

The narrator, Katie Villa, is fabulous! Great job on the pacing and all the different voices!

Need a unique thriller with a surprise ending…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this audiobook from the publisher for a honest review. ( )

I have mixed feelings whenever I read (heck, or when I write) "Perfect for fans of Gone Girl or The Girl On The Train" because I feel even THAT gives too much away about the book. Should I expect an unreliable narrator? Will I even LIKE the characters?

The Girl from the Sea delivers a gripping story that should have been predictable but wasn't. And no, at times I didn't like Mia, which is interesting because even Mia didn't really know who Mia was, and so we are learning about her as she does. Author Boland does a great job of building tension - lots of tension and the story hurtles along...and then when I think I've figured it out, BOOM, and there's a twist I wasn't expecting. I stayed up late reading this one. I bet you will too.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of the book. ( )
