A bit of a slower book than the last several as several major story lines were wrapped up in book #6, and the author needed to setup the the plot for the rest of the series (I assume).

The book alternated chapters with first person narrative with Jason and Walter and I found myself skimming the Jason chapters to get to the Walter chapters as I found them infinitely more interesting.

This is really the last of the Guardians of the Flame books. There are others after it, but they really go in a different direction with different characters. I enjoyed this book like all of the others, but really it isn't quite as strong as the first five. ( )

Book description
In the seventh installment of Rosenberg's Guardians of the Flame series, the major characters are Walter Slovotsky, who has to reconcile himself to not only the loss of his wife but also to going questing with his wife's lover, and Jason Cullinane, who is slowly growing into his father boots. One part of that growth involves questing with a member of the Slavers' Guild, and that is not the yarn's only complication.
