... Jane Austen (no touchstone!) regularly and Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. and Lord of the Rings Trilogy and the Narnia Chronicles --and much more! This must be why I so seldom give books away.
It's a wonder I ever have time to read anything new. ;-) ... I will probably check out The Lobster Chronicles next year so I can compare them.
I'm glad you are reading the Chronicles of Narnia in the "proper" order--as Lewis intended them to be read rather than in the "chronological" order that the publisher numbers them by. That is a ... KERIAN!!! I posted the entire Chronicles of Narnia on bookmooch and they sat there for weeks. Just the other day, a kids book charity requested them all. I'm glad they're getting them, but I wish I'd known you didn't have them.

I am really happy with the full color Chronicles of Narnia that I got. I actually have my original set of those, but I discovered they didn't have all the illustrations. ... right -- looks like The Lord of the Rings is the clear winner, with 11 votes (the next nearest were Twilight, Chronicles of Narnia, and Princess Bride with eight each). So, everybody get out your copies of The Fellowship of the Ring!

I just added the entire Chronicles of Narnia in publication order - The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is book 1 - and will be purging my books again soon to repopulate the inventory... Now, off to check out all of yours! ... t??
We went to Phoenix Books, one of my favorite new/used shops here in SF, and totally scored: We got the boxed set of the Chronicles of Narnia in the original publication order (which I have had and rebuilt over the past year but this one still has the box and is all the same edition), as well ... ... credit is due. There was no 'Lord of the Rings franchise'. They weren't bought and packaged by a media group the way the Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter movies have been. No movie studio was interested in doing a fantasy movie back then. Fantasy movies were expensive and had only so-so ... ... and the Beast by Robin McKinley

The next person loves muenster cheese! I am not sure that series have to be sequential. The Narnia Chronicles of CS Lewis are listed in two separate series to reflect two didferent sequentialities (publication order vs. time order). Even more confusing are PERN vs Dragonriders of Pern series which batch together books in ... nope, I read them.
the next person has read the chronicles of narnia I am currently reading the 6th Chronicles of Narnia book, The Silver Chair. I have never read the series and I am really enjoying it! :D ... last week, I wanted to see how it differed from its source material. The book doesn't improve my overall impression of The Chronicles of Narnia much. ... from a denomination-neutral point of view. However, he was rather heavily influenced by R.C. theology and R.C. friends. The Chronicles of Narnia should especially be on the bookshelf of any English-speaking Roman Catholic.

I finished my chronicles of narnia reread, and have started animal farm I started reading YA when I was that age and never stopped. Some of it is because of nostalgia-- chronicles of narnia, etc. Some because writers I liked as a YA keep writing -- Tamora Pierce, God love her, keeps writing, so I keep buying. (Though there are exceptions, as sometimes there will be ... ... the novels that effectively portray the Christian or Judeo-Christian sense of life, whether they do so explicitly or not--Narnia and Perelandra, of course, as well as Quo Vadis for the historically minded, and the incredibly moving (and short) Job: the Story of a Simple Man by Joseph Ro ... ... also got Ovid's The Erotic Poems at the same time.
On Sunday I saw the film version of Prince Caspian, so I put The Chronicles of Narnia back in the TBR pile which is now at 61. ... a friends of the library sale and came back with a sack full. Some of the notable ones Desert Queen, The Art of War, The Chronicles of Narnia, Lost Nation, The Rule of Four, A Simple Plan, A Lesson before Dying, White Noise, Thunderstruck and the list goes on. ... The Giving Tree ! Hard Boiled wonderland and the end of the world ... The Things they carried, The princess bride, Narnia, Little Women, The Shinning (only because I STILL visually remember things from that book.. talk about a lasting impression!

Okay, so if the HP books lack the spiritual aspect found in the Chronicles of Narnia, how about comparing it to the Little House on the Prarie series or Anne of Green Gables? Granted, neither of these currently have the appeal of the HP series but these books have been in print for more than ... Like many people, I reread series all in one go, so most of mine fall into that category:

My mom has had her classes read the Tolkien books, as well as the Chronicles of Narnia, and they ate them up. She has also done some Bradbury (Dandelion Wine, I think) and Farenheit 451. She is not a huge reader of fantasy/sci-fi ... ... Easily. My favorites within the series have changed over the years, but my love for the whole set has never flagged.

Pride and Prejudice I've got an old boxed set of Narnia books and a one volume omnibus, two separate trade sets of the Lord of the Rings, one with slip covers and the other with pull out maps, and a hard-cover library-bound paperback sized copy of Silverthorn as well as the regular paperback. The later amused ... I really want to reread the Narnia series. I've been thinking about it a lot lately but am not sure if I want to purchase or borrow, so I've been putting it off. But I think there's probably a lot I missed by reading it when I was nine.
I often reread Wait till Helen Comes.
Same with A ... ... are very subtley trying to conquer Earth. Same as above, these might be out of print, but still easy enough to find.
The Chronicles of Narnia also with religious themes but subtle. It was years and many repeated readings before I even noticed the analogies, and I still just read these ... I have a few books that I read a lot. The Little Prince and The Chronicles of Narnia are examples.
I do not skim these books when I reread them, as I read them aloud to my children.
So, is it "ethical" to put them on my 2008 list, even if I've read them in prior years as well?

My parents read me the Narnia books when I was a kid and I still re-read them every year or two. My fondness for them is more nostalgia than literary, though. ... one of his novels. He also liked fantasy books too. I can't remember many of them now. I remember when he discovered The chronicles of Narnia. He of coursed bought me my own set and I fell in love with them.

I looked at your blog list. It's really big. So just a few comments.
I would use The Chronicles of Narnia rather than The Lion, the Witch and the wardrobe for CS Lewis' famous series.
I might prefer The Space Trilogy over Cosmic Trilogy as a count from the Debris ... My parents read to me constantly -- piles and stacks of picture books, but also Charlotte's Web, The Chronicles of Narnia, A Christmas Carol, and many others.
As for their own reading tastes, it probably does not reflect well on Mom that I mostly remember her reading Harlequin romance ... ... Potter series of course. Tibby from The Sisterhood, Mia and Lilly from The Princess Diaries, and Lucy and Aslan from The Chronicles of Narnia.
As for crushes Harry Potter, Charmont from Ella Enchanted, and Sodapop from The Outsiders. LOL, I know. ... the old paint, sanded it down, refinished it, and then decoupaged the tops. Narnia on the other hand is in a shameless state of been read to death, and loaned out and never returned (when I was a child and didn't know better) and patched back ... ...
My copies of the following series are in various editions, they look kinda funny on the shelf but I guess that's ok haha! Narnia, Temeraire, Dark Reflections, Gentleman Bastard, Earthsea, Abhorsen, Bartimaeus, and Sevenwaters!

The Lord of the Rings books are another sort of comfort reading for me -- like Narnia and A Christmas Carol, they bring back good memories of childhood. My first was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe which then led to a few of the other Narnia books. When my teacher noticed my new interest, she turned my attention to The Hobbit...life has not been the same since! Narnia is definitely my number one can't-believe-it's-not-there work. There's no reason for children's literature to be excluded. nope.

Oh boy. Step two ought to be to ban The Chronicles of Narnia, lest Mallory be a hypocrite in terms of fantasy books that promote a certain religion. Because she doesn't want to be a hypocrite, does she?

At one time Jem Finch, now Atticus Finch: To Kill a Mockingbird ... Around four or five my dad started reading me the Wizard of Oz. Our library had the whole series. Then he read the Chronicles of Narnia. He got about halfway through before I decided I was old enough to read them myself. Around ten he gave me The Magic of Xanth. I found Redwall ... ... writing after the magical children's book The Wind in the Willows (not mentioned!!) - and to a lesser degree, The Chronicles of Narnia.
After that I started enjoying the early Dragonlance novels by Weis and Hickman - which still have a soft spot in my heart to this day ... ... never see Memoirs of a Geisha. I really regret seeing several others, like The Black Cauldron and the BBC versions of The Chronicles of Narnia.
It's almost always a matter of casting/character interpretation, so far as I'm concerned. I'm a very visual reader; I picture the characters ... ... don't have a problem with reading about these ideas and enjoyed the books very much. They have been compared to an athiest Chronicles of Narnia (which are still among my most treasured childhood books in spite of the Christian message).
It's up to you whether this content offends your ... Oh yeah go Jerm....we like the same books.... i also like the chronicals of narnia and my lit circles books Boy Overboard ... lit? How? There are some books that are clearly for children, but what about the borderline works...like C. S. Lewis's Narnia or Lloyd Alexander's Prydain?
...or am I just thinking about it too much? LOL XD ...
